ENGLISH

Friday (5/11), Naresy International Education Consultant (NIEC) Yogyakarta in collaboration with Universitas Gadjah Mada held a Virtual Info Session for students who are interested in continuing their study abroad. This event started with the Branch Manager of NIEC, Edy Purwanto., M.A., greeting the participants. Participants were then asked about their university and major. Participants were from areas all over Indonesia, from Sumatra all the way to Papua.

Edy Purwanto, or Kak Edy, was going to share information on how to “study on a budget” in Europe. NIEC itself is a consulting agency focusing on college and scholarship admission. Throughout the event he debunked myths about studying abroad, he even answered and discussed many questions the participants had. Many students were worried about a lot of things from their lack of fluency in speaking English, having little to no achievements, or even tuition fees. Despite it all, Kak Edy assured them that NIEC can help them regardless of their circumstances.

Kak Edy stressed that the event is casual and not only encouraged attendees to participate but also to ask about specific places or countries around the world where they want to go. He also stated that NIEC will help students seeking to study outside Europe.

During the event Kak Edy discussed available programs while also giving valuable insight on not only costs like tuition, but also costs of living. Kak Edy ensured that attendees will have their needs met for processes like translating documents. Services provided by NIEC are available to members whereas non-members must pay every time they use them.

He then proceeds to talk about available programs available abroad. When looking through the different universities, he always refers to booklets provided straight by the university. These booklets provide information ranging from tuition to estimated costs of living.

This event highlighted four countries (Turkey, Poland, Hungary, and Russia), Kak Edy continued to explain about each country. In the first session, Kak Edy explains a lot about Yasar Universitesi in Turkey. Yasar Universitesi opens for undergraduate and graduate programs, ranging from business, psychology, to art and design. Each year, Yaser Universitesi also has Erasmus Scholarship quota, making it possible to take undergraduate courses in several European universities.

The second session was about Vistula University in Poland. What makes Poland unique is that the cost of living is similar with Indonesia, especially Yogyakarta. For students who love traveling, studying in Europe might be a viable option due to their visa being eligible for all EU-countries, which means they don’t have to go through the trouble of making new visas. Vistula University also has the Erasmus program for their students. Similar to Turkey, semesters in Poland start in March and October. The application process is quite easy, IELTS is not required, since Vistula University has its own online English test in their admission process.

The final university discussed was the University of Pecs in Hungary. The living cost is also similar to Indonesia. Hungary also has the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship available for international students starting in their second year. Before the Virtual Info Session ended, Kak Edy answered some questions, while also remarking that the participants (which ranged from high schoolers to college students) were highly enthusiastic about the prospect of studying abroad.

BAHASA INDONESIA
