Chocolate is one of Belgian specialties amongst many others and also the most popular! Discover this yummy programme through various and different aspects – you will be also surprised how significant the impact of chocolate is on our everyday life.
Based on the firm tradition of collaboration with China and its tailor-made Summer School, VUB is organizing its Summer School “Chocolate, the sweet Belgian art”. Immerse yourself in different topics at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, one of the top universities in Europe.
This Summer School will take place from 11th of July to 17th of July 2016. Courses are taught by experts in the fields.

4. Summer School – Biotech in Brussels: where Biology meets Technology

In this Summer School, you will be immersed in the multidisciplinary and international research environment of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, which has a sound reputation in training and research in molecular biology and biotechnology. Inspiring lectures will be combined with hands-on workshops, guided by experienced researchers, in state-of-the-art laboratories of the research groups “Structural Biology Brussels”, “Microbiology” and “Cellular and Molecular Immunology”. Throughout the week you will be taken on visits of Brussels and its innovative biotech industry.
Programme
This Summer School will take you on a fascinating journey starting from the molecular level, with a focus on proteins, to the cellular level, with a focus on the engineering of microorganisms for use as cell factories and on disease. The common thread running through the integrative workshops and lectures are two classes of proteins: green fluorescent protein, which can be used as a research tool, and nanobodies, a unique class of camel antibodies with far-reaching applications in biotechnology and medicine. Every day of the Summer School is focused on a different theme: Molecules, Genes, Cells, Disease, Applications.
