Sophia University Summer Session in Asian Studies & Summer Session for Japanese Language 2016

ph_02Since its foundation in 1961, Sophia University Summer Session in Asian Studies has provided the participants with the opportunity to study about Japan and explore the country’s relation to Asia and the rest of the world. By studying at Yotsuya campus in the heart of Tokyo, the students experience various aspects of Japanese culture and society, and witness the myriad ways in which all cultures of the world are reflected in the maze-like urban landscape of Tokyo.
Sophia University’s short-term intensive program, Summer Session for Japanese Language (and Culture, modified in 2015), started in June 2013. This six-week Summer Session is designed for students who are willing to work hard to improve their Japanese language ability through a remarkably intensive program organized in Japan. Different proficiency levels of classes are offered and students study Japanese in an international environment in the heart of Tokyo.
*Japanese Language classes will be three lessons of ninety minutes a day, Monday through Friday.
Session Period:
1. Summer Session for Japanese Language: Six weeks (June 6th to July 15th, 2016)
2. Summer Studies in Asia Studies: Three weeks (July 21st to August 12th, 2016)
Program capacity: 60 students per program period
Qualification :
1. The minimum GPA requirement for acceptance is 2.75 on a 4.00 scale or equivalent grades.
2. Applicants must attend all the classes to obtain credits unless there are any inevitable reasons to skip a class. Auditing is not approved.
3. For Summer Session for Japanese Language participants need a certain level of English proficiency to keep up with the classes, however, there are no specific requirements to prove their English ability. Meanwhile for Summer Studies in Asia Studies, the minimum required scores of English proficiency test for acceptance are as follows: TOEFL/PBT: 550, TOEFL/iBT: 79, IELTS: 6.0. English proficiency test score, has to be submitted.
 

Tuition:

1. For Summer Session for Japanese Language: ¥260,000

*Tuition is payable only online by credit card, PayPal or ChinaPay.
*Exemption of tuition according to the exchange partnership agreement does not apply to the applicants of this program.
*Applicants will receive a full refund of paid tuition by conveying the intention to cancel the attendance at the program to the Center For Global Discovery before 5pm on May 5th, 2016 (JST).
2. For Summer Studies in Asia Studies: ¥175,000
*Tuition is payable only online by credit card, PayPal or ChinaPay.
*Applicants will receive a full refund of paid tuition by conveying the intention to cancel the attendance at the program to the Center For Global Discovery before 5pm on June 20th, 2016 (JST).

  4. English proficiency certificate (for Asia Studies program only) : TOEFL/PBT: 550, TOEFL/iBT: 79, IELTS: 6.0.
  5. Student Enrollment from faculty
  6. Letter of recommendation from faculty
  7. One formal pass photo (3x4cm)
