OTHER CONSIDERATION
Course selection:
Students do not have to prepare a Learning Agreement in advance (unless you as their home university demand one) but they should take a thorough look at available classes before their nomination. Students are encouraged to mainly choose courses from the study programme they will be admitted to and some electives from our pool of interdisciplinary courses (e. g. a German class). For your reference, the minimum fulltime workload is 16 ECTS credits, the maximum fulltime workload is usually around 30 ECTS credits. We generally advise exchange students to take around 20-25 ECTS since studying in another language/country can be challenging. The actual course catalogue is usually only published 2-3 months before semester start but since the course offer tends to be similar, your students can use the details from the summer semester of the previous year as a reference for the upcoming summer semester. More information to be found on our subpage “Studying at UIBK”.
Language requirements:
While we do not demand language certificates from nominated students, please note that many of our classes are taught in German and students should thus have at least a B2 level in German if they wish to follow any of these classes. Please inform your students to check beforehand if there are enough English-taught classes available for their study programmes. Our team is happy to help them with that if they have trouble navigating our course catalogue.
Housing
UIBK does not have its own on-campus housing but we work in close collaboration with OeAD student housing, a non-profit student residence provider for international students. In the previously mentioned ‘Welcome’ email, nominated students are strongly encouraged to apply for a dorm room with OeAD student housing ASAP since this is the most convenient way to find affordable student accommodation and there are only a limited number of dorms available.
Organisation of the stay
We have provided ample information regarding entry and residence regulations, health insurance and living in Innsbruck on our dedicated subpage “Organising your stay in Innsbruck”. Please ask your nominated students to take a look at it carefully so they have enough time for their visa application etc.
