Greetings from Japan!

Meiji University is a prestigious private university located in Tokyo, Japan. Founded in 1881, it is one of the oldest and most renowned educational institutions in the country. Meiji University is known for its strong emphasis on academic excellence, innovation, and global perspectives. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across various disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, law, economics, business administration, science and technology, and international studies. With a diverse and talented faculty, Meiji University provides students with a high-quality education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills.

We are pleased to inform you that the application for Meiji University Short-term Japanese Language Program (Summer 2026) is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.

ELIGIBILITY

Language Requirement: Applicants must fall into one of two specific proficiency tracks.
Elementary Course (JLPT N4 equivalent): Must be able to comprehend slowly spoken daily conversations. Absolute beginners are NOT eligible.
Intermediate Course (JLPT N3–N2 equivalent): Must be able to comprehend near-natural speed conversations and state opinions. Advanced learners are NOT eligible.

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Please refer directly to the Meiji University program website for specific required documents.
  • Note: Applicants must complete an online Japanese Test as part of the application process. You must leave ample time to complete this before the deadline.

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Fees & Scholarships: The program fee is 90,000 JPY. Eligible students from partner universities (like UGM) may apply for a highly competitive JASSO scholarship worth 80,000 JPY, awarded at the end of the program.
  • Accommodation & Visa: Participants who require Visa support to enter Japan must stay at the hotel recommended by Meiji University. You can apply for this accommodation after your participation is confirmed.

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Apply directly to Meiji University. Kindly refer to the program website to access the online application.
  2. The deadline is 5 April 2026 (Japan Time).
  3. However, applications will close earlier if capacity is reached. Early application is strongly recommended.
  4. The FINAL decision is from Meiji University.

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
  • In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)
