About the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)
- Each Fellowship awardee will be provided with a monthly stipend of HK$26,900* (US$1=HK$7.8) and a conference/research-related travel allowance of up to HK$13,500* per year for a maximum period of three years by the RGC.
- In addition, the full tuition fee for a non-local Fellowship awardee will be waived by Lingnan for his/her first year of study.
- For an awardee with a normative study period of four years, the University will offer the same level of Fellowship and conference/research-related travel allowance for his/her fourth year of study.
Eligibility
- Candidates who are seeking admission as new full time PhD students in the following eight universities, irrespective of their country of origin, prior work experience and ethnic background, should be eligible to apply.
- Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities.
Admission Process
- Apply via the HKPFS+ (https://cerg1.ugc.edu.hk/hkpfs/index.html) during the period from 1 September to 1 December 2021 (Hong Kong Time 12:00 noon). Applicants who apply for and do not get the Fellowship can still be considered for the regular PhD places at Lingnan.
- Apply to the University directly~ from 1 November 2021 to 21 January 2022. Normally, full-time PhD students will be awarded full Postgraduate Studentships. In 2021-22, the full monthly stipend is HK$18,090*# before confirmation of candidature and HK$18,440*# after confirmation of candidature.
- Lingnan University also have popular research-based 2-year MPhil programmes. Applicants may apply for admission to our MPhil programmes directly from 1 November 2021 to 21 January 2022. Full-time MPhil students will also be awarded Postgraduate Studentships. In 2021-22, the full monthly stipend is HK$17,830*#.
*Amount subjects to annual review.
#The University may also award a partial studentship which is a fraction of the amount for a full studentship to students.
