Greetings from Japan!

Hokkaido University’s Graduate School of Life Science invites Universitas Gadjah Mada students and alumni to apply for the International Graduate Program (IGP) Special MEXT Scholarship for the October 2027 intake. This fully-funded program is designed for outstanding researchers aspiring to pursue advanced studies under the “Life Science Researcher Training Program for Solving Global Issues.”

We are pleased to inform you that the application for the Hokkaido University MEXT IGP Scholarship is now open.

Hokkaido University IGP Special Quota

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Intake: October 2027
  • Available Quotas: 5 Doctoral candidates and 3 Master’s students globally.
  • Academic Focus: Advanced life sciences, addressing global issues through cutting-edge biological and medical research.

 

ELIGIBILITY & BENEFITS

  • Active UGM final-year students or alumni with a strong academic background in life sciences.
  • Funding: Full financial support via the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship, which covers tuition fees, a monthly living stipend, and international travel expenses.

 

 

Applicants must secure a supervisor BEFORE submitting formal documents.

  1. Identify a Supervisor: Review the faculty list on the official website and identify a laboratory that perfectly aligns with your research objectives.
  2. Make Direct Contact: Email the respective faculty member immediately to discuss your research interests and request their agreement to host you.
  3. Submit the aforementioned documents to UGM International Exposure Application Form: http://ugm.id/IntExposureApplication
  4. Application Deadline: 10 December 2026 (All documents must be finalized with your supervisor by this date).
  5. The FINAL decision is from Hokkaido University and MEXT.

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
  • In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)
